Miller Children’s Hospital - Building for Children: Heroes Helping Heroes

A

idan Sears is a hero. At six-years-old he has already battled cancer at the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center (JJCCC) at Miller Children’s Hospital.

Jody King, RN, is a hero. She helps to treat the hospital’s tiniest patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Jamie Danis

Jamie Danis is a hero. The ten-year-old MCH patient has raised over $2,000 from lemonade stand sales, her allowance and birthday gifts and has generously given those hard-earned funds to the Memorial Medical Center Foundation in support of Miller Children’s Hospital.

You can become a hero, too!

Miller Children’s Hospital admits more young heroes everyday who are fighting illness and injury. Since the hospital opened its doors in 1970, the local population has grown more than 29 percent. To meet the growing needs of the community, MCH must expand – and to do so we need your help.

Building for Children: Heroes Helping Heroes is the capital campaign to provide the community with a new facility where patients, doctors, nurses and parents slay disease. The new four-level, 124,000 square-foot inpatient pavilion will be home to the only pediatric imaging and surgical centers in the region. This building will allow for a much needed expansion of the NICU; and house a meditation space, more patient rooms and a Child Life playroom.

Like most heroic journeys the Building for Children Campaign is facing a challenge. Through the generous support of our philanthropic friends MMCF has raised $20.5 million. However, we need to raise $24 million by December 31, 2008 to meet our goal. If we do not reach this goal the campaign will not receive two important “challenge gifts” from the Kresge and Weingart Foundations. These gifts, totaling $2 million, will only be received if MMCF meets the goal on time.

So please, become a philanthropic hero today. Together we can provide “that extra measure of care” to the children of our community.
