CORPORATE GIVING
CORPORATE RELATIONSHIPS:

P.I.N.K. “…why not give all the profits to breast cancer research?” This is the revolutionary idea that inspired Barbara K. Robinson to create p.i.n.k, a women’s clothing store which gives 100% of its profits to breast cancer research. Located in an old house in Hermosa Beach, the store is the latest addition to The Barbara K. Robinson Breast Cancer Research Program (BKR Program).

P2

The program began when Barbara K. Robinson, a breast cancer survivor, gave $3 million to Memorial Medical Center Foundation to establish the program at the Long Beach Memorial Care Breast Center at the Todd Cancer institute. Through Barbara’s generous gift, the BKR Program has made terrific progress in breast cancer research, such as exploring new imaging and diagnostic techniques, as well as investigating non-traditional chemotherapy and surgery combinations. P.i.n.k opened last year in early October, just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and was recently voted South Bay’s Best Women’s Store by The Beach Reporter. For more information about p.i.n.k., please visit www.shoppinkstore.com.

2007 Miller Children’s Hospital (MCH) Annual Golf Classic Presented by Long Beach BMW On May 14, 2007 participants enjoyed a great day of golf on the greens at the Virginia Country Club. Although the coveted hole-in-one prize of a new BMW still remains elusive, the sponsors made this year’s tournament, benefiting the Pediatric Cardiology Center at MCH, a record breaker. The Long Beach BMW fivesome included, left to right: Jimmy Campanis, manager, Mini and New Car Sales; Ryan Autrey president/general manager; former Angels baseball player, Wally Joyner; Bob Autrey, founder; and Brad Watson, parts manager – enjoyed another year as title sponsor of the event.

2007 MCH Annual Golf Classic Sponsor Appreciation EventJames G. Craig, Jr. (left) hosted a wine tasting at Virginia Country Club to thank the sponsors of the 2007 Miller Children’s Hospital Annual Golf Classic sponsored by Long Beach BMW. Randy Kemner (right) of the Wine Country in Signal Hill paired foods and wines from Argentina and New Zealand that showcased the hidden gems of the Southern Hemisphere.

P5 The Grand Prix Foundation of Long BeachRepresentatives from the Grand Prix Foundation (GPF) toured the recently refurbished new wing of Miller Children’s West. With balloons in abundance, the trio presented a $25,000 gift to the Memorial Medical Center Foundation (MMCF) for support of the current expansion of Miller Children’s Hospital. From the left: Jim Michaelian, GPF Board member and president/CEO Grand Prix Association of Long Beach; Valerie Demartino, GPF secretary; Tom Poole, MMCF vice president, development for MCH; and Rick DuRee, GPF president.

PARTNERSHIPS IN EXCELLENCE

July 1, 2007 marked the sixth year for this caring group of business owners and executives who pledge their support for capital equipment needs at this stellar institute. The goal for this fiscal year (July 2007 – June 30, 2008) is $180,000 and 100 members. P1

The majority of the funds raised – $100,000 will provide New Giraffe OmniBeds and patient monitors to the Neonatal Unit (NICU), where around the clock, compassionate and comprehensive care for premature babies with extremely low birth weights takes place. The remaining $80,000 raised will focus on the Nursing Education Skills Lab complete with life-like human simulators for training new nursing students from California State University Long Beach (CSULB). The pioneering partnership between LBMMC/MCH and CSULB offers students hands-on instruction in the new skills lab which replicates the hospital setting.

We invite you to consider your place in this unique Partnership. For more information please call Wanda Cockey at (562) 933-1655.
